Cavan ( KAV-ən; Irish: An Cabhán, meaning "The Hollow") is the county town of County Cavan in Ireland. The town lies in Ulster, near the border with County Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. The town is on the main N3 road that links Dublin (to the south) with Enniskillen, Ballyshannon and Donegal Town (to the north).

Cootehill (; Irish: Muinchille, meaning "ridge") is a market town and townland in County Cavan, Ireland. Cootehill was formerly part of the neighbouring townland of Munnilly.  Both townlands lie within the barony of Tullygarvey.The English language name of the town is a portmanteau of "Coote" and "Hill", the family names of a local 18th century landowning family.

Ballyconnell (Irish: Béal Átha Conaill, meaning "Entrance to the Ford of Conall") is a town in County Cavan, Ireland. It is situated on the N87 national secondary road at the junction of four townlands Annagh, Cullyleenan, Doon (Tomregan) and Derryginny in the parish of Tomregan, Barony of Tullyhaw. Ballyconnell won the Irish Tidy Towns Competition in 1971 and was also winner in 1975.The town lies astride the Shannon–Erne Waterway which was re-opened in 1993, formerly known as the Woodford Canal which was finally completed in 1860. Prior to being canalised it was known as the River Grainne. The population of Ballyconnell, according to the 2016 Census, was 1,105 persons, an increase of 4% on the previous 2011 census.

It is named after the town of Cavan and is based on the historic Gaelic territory of East Breffny (Bréifne). Cavan County Council is the local authority for the county, which had a population of 76,176 at the 2016 census.

Kingscourt, historically known as Dunaree (Irish: Dún an Rí, meaning "fort of the king"), is a town in County Cavan, Ireland. It is located near the Cavan–Meath border. The town was founded near the site of the old village of Cabra, by Mervyn Pratt, towards the end of the 18th century, and was completed by his brother, The Rev. Joseph Pratt.
